PROTOS FOODS Introduces
All-Natural, 2-Minute Gourmet Meal:
OSTRIM® Ostrich Sauté, Ready-to-Serve HMR,
Unveiled at Natural Products Expo West
ANAHEIM, CA –
Protos Foods has introduced OSTRIM Ostrich Sauté, a delicious all-natural,
pre-cooked gourmet meal that heats in a microwave in just two minutes
or in boiling water in about five minutes.
This nutritionally well-balanced meal was unveiled to nearly 30,000
natural product retailers and distributors attending the Natural
Products Expo West at the Anaheim Convention Center March 12-14,
This fully cooked, ready-to-serve, shelf-stable (no refrigeration
required) meal is made with naturally raised ostrich, one of nature’s
healthiest low-fat, low-cholesterol meats. It is sautéed with vegetables
and served on a bed of brown rice in a tantalizing teriyaki sauce.
The OSTRIM Ostrich Sauté has 27g of protein (54% of Daily Value,
based on a 2,000 calorie diet), with only 6g of fat and 360 calories.
Advanced retort cooking technology preserves the flavor and nutrients,
while producing a ready-to-heat and serve meal that needs no prior
refrigeration. A combination of airtight packaging with breakthrough
heat processing creates a shelf-stable meal that can be stored at
room temperature for a minimum of one year. The OSTRIM Ostrich Sauté
utilizes no irradiation and no added preservatives in the cooking
According to Protos Foods’ President W. Logan Dickerson, OSTRIM
Ostrich Sauté is a Home Meal Replacement (HMR) designed especially
for the Urban Triathlete™, today’s busy person who balances time
for family, career and self. "Protos Foods specializes in manufacturing
healthy, convenience foods for time-strapped people, such as the
man or woman we describe as the Urban Triathlete," Dickerson said.
"These people belong to a growing number of dual-career couples,
single mothers and young people who don’t have time or the inclination
to cook. The OSTRIM Ostrich Sauté has been created with them in
The Ostrich Sauté is not only a healthy, convenient HMR for busy
people, it is also a healthy option for campers, boaters, backpackers
or anyone who would appreciate an on-the-go gourmet meal that they
can carry with them anywhere. "Flavor and nutrition have not been
sacrificed for convenience," Dickerson said. "Our ostrich are naturally
raised, with no antibiotics or stimulants on our Big Bend Ostrich
Ranch, Inc. (Texas), thus ensuring the highest quality, most delicious
all-natural meat. Our Ostrich Sauté recipe was designed especially
for Protos by Chef Dominic Spatola, a graduate of the Culinary Institute
of America (New York) and well-known for his culinary excellence
in the preparation of ostrich dishes."
Ostrich is growing in popularity among health-conscious people.
Ostrich is similar in consistency, appearance and flavor to beef,
but with 50 percent less fat and fewer calories and cholesterol.
In fact, ostrich has less fat and cholesterol than chicken, turkey,
pork and lamb, and more iron than all other traditional meats.
Consumers have become familiar with Protos Foods’ OSTRIM® #1 Sports
Nutrition Meat Snack, a vacuum-sealed, shelf-stable, healthy meat
stick sold throughout the United States in GNCs and other health
